Jordan Sims hopes previous experience at Owosso Speedway pays Dividends in the Labor Day Weekend
By Lorz Motorsports - M.P.H. Promotions Midlothian, Illinois (Wednesday, September 2, 2009): As home turf races go, Jordan Sims was pleased despite the hard work he would put into a sixth place finish in the 3rd annual Mid-Michigan Dixie Challenge 100 at Dixie Motor Speedway on August 21st. The Birch Run, Michigan speed plant is the closest track on the 2009 ASA Late Model Series Northern Division schedule to Sims%u2019 home in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario / Canada and the 19-year-old had this date circled on the calendar since the 2009 schedule came out. Plus, with over 100 fellow Canadians in the grandstand cheering him on, Sims was psyched up to say the least about running at the 4/10s (0.400) mile progressively banked d-shaped paved oval located South of Saginaw, Michigan. After qualifying a disappointing 15th in the 20-car field, the young Canadian would start the 100-lap feature from the inside of the eighth row. He quickly climbed up into the top 10 and despite having to go to the rear of the field just prior to the halfway point of the race, Sims clawed and scratched his way back up through the field and earned a hard-fought sixth place finish. Sims and the Lorz Motorsports Team will now prepare to make the return trip to the Great Lakes State and to the Owosso Speedway, located West of Owosso in Ovid, Michigan on Saturday, September 5th for the running of the Labor Day Weekend 100. Sims hopes his brief time spent on the fast 3/8s (0.375) mile high-banked paved oval in an open wheeled Modified will pay dividends in the last race before the ASALMS North Season Championships in October. "Jordan did an excellent job at Dixie with another top 10, it was a good run," Lorz Motorsports Car Owner, Mike Lorz said. "We have two races left and we need to finish in the top five so we can make up some ground in the points. The whole team is really looking forward to Owosso, Jordan should have a good run there, he has some laps there also so that will help out." He added. After eight races on the 2009 ASALMS Northern Division schedule, Sims is sitting sixth overall in the title chase, just 19 points shy of the Top Five. As for the chase for the 2009 Rookie of the Year title. Sims trails current leader, Josh Nelms by just 78 markers (1218-1140) while 16-year-old Ross Kenseth is now 30 points behind Sims.
