ASA Late Model North Series Press Release: Canadian Jordan Sims looks to regroup with a solid weekend during Border Wars
By Lorz Motorsports - M.P.H. Promotions Midlothian, Illinois (Monday, July 20, 2009):
Lorz Motorsports Car Owner, Mike Lorz knows he's got a very talented driver in his stable in 18-year-old Jordan Sims. Lorz also knows that every rookie goes through growing pains from time to time. The last two ASA Late Model Series Northern Division races have proven that.
Sims suffered tire problems that cost his good finishes at Berlin Raceway on June 20th and again at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway the following weekend on June 27th. With a month off to regroup though, Lorz, Sims, and the entire crew are anxious to get back to racing within the ASALMS Northern Division.
"I would like to forget about the last two races. Jordan had some good runs going and top 10 finishes were ruined by stupid tire problems," Lorz bluntly stated. "At Berlin, Jordan was up to seventh half way through the race and the car was really loose all the cars he passed started passing him back up."
Sims spun coming out of turn four due to a flat tire forcing the Lorz Motorsports team to go to work on Sims%u2019 Chevrolet and make repairs.
The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario / Canada driver could only muster up a 15th place finish in the Tradition 100 on the tricky 7/16s (0.427) mile progressively banked paved oval located in Marne, Michigan.
The following weekend at the 0.545 mile progressively banked paved oval of LaCrosse in West Salem, Wisconsin, the very same thing happened to Sims while he was running in eighth position. Only this time it was with just a few laps to go. The tire blowout caused Sims to spin and back his machine into the wall.
"It has not been a good couple of weeks for the Lorz team but we will bounce back and get Jordan the finishes he deserves," continued Lorz. "He has done excellent job all year and his time will come when he will be winning races."
Lorz knows his young driver has the tenacity and raw skill to get the job done. He witnessed it first hand during the 11th annual George Appleton Memorial 125 at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Illinois on May 24th as Sims scored a career high fourth place finish.
Now Sims will get two chances to prove it with Border Wars on Friday, July 24th at Madison International Speedway in Oregon, Wisconsin and then the next night on Saturday, July 25th at Rockford Speedway in Loves Park, Illinois.
After five races within the 2009 ASALMS Northern Division schedule, Sims is seventh place overall and third in the chase for the 2009 Rookie of the Year title. Sims trails current leader, Josh Nelms by 66 markers (731-665) and second place, Rebecca Kasten (676) by only 11 points.
